The pickup

The position of the Oil Pickup has a major effect on the performance of a wet sump oil pan. Where it sits in relationship to the baffling and the distance off the bottom of the pan greatly effect its performance. Our pickups are built specifically to work with each pan it was designed for. They are made from heavy wall tubing and have solid mounting brackets. The screened pickup cup protects your pump from large debris. It is large enough so there is no restriction in oil flow but small enough to ensure no air can reach the pump under demanding racing conditions. The correct pickups for each application is listed with the oil pan listing.

Small Block Chevy

A variety of oil pumps are available for the SBC. Which one is correct for you depends on the preferences of your engine builder. For the best result each style of pump requires its own specially designed pickup for each oil pan. The chart to your right references the various available pickups according to the depth of the oil pan and are grouped by application.

Recommended welding

We recommend tack welding all non bolt on pickups to ensure that they stay in place.

Bracket for support

All of our chevy pickup tubes are equipped with two brackets. The first is a “hammer” bracket. This bracket allows for easy installation without risk of damage to the tube or cup. The second feature is a support bracket that bolts to the bottom of the pump. Pickup tubes should still be welded to the pump at the inlet for a positive and secure fit.

CHEVY PICKUPS HAVE A 1/8" THICK MOUNTING BRACKET TO INSURE THAT THEY REMAIN IN PLACE.

Rear sump Ford Pickup mounting studs

Most Ford engines were originally designed with a front sump oil pan and a front mounted oil pump. Later models are rear sumps which require a long pickup tube running from the front mounted pump to the rear of the pan. These rear sump equipped engines have a main cap bolt to support the pickup while early style engines may not. For those applications we offer these main cap bolts.

EXTERNAL OIL PUMP PICKUP KITS

#20-720a









Universal external oil pump pickup kit’s include a pickup cup, tube and a -12 AN fitting. 1" tube aplications uses -16AN fitting. This kit can be used to convert a standard wet sump pan to one used with an external oil pump or to add an extra pickup to a dry sump pan. Welding is required. NOTE: We will install these kits in any of our wet sump oil pans on a special order basis.
